Birds and Security Issues

According to several studies and papers, including research on great white pelicans, planes flying in a V-shaped formation could potentially save fuel and cut greenhouse gases. Meanwhile, the private aviation industry is experiencing some growth due to heightened security in the commercial sector, and further growth is predicted.

Birds flying in the V-shaped pattern are able to fly 70% further than birds flying on their own, and scientists are hoping to apply this to jumbo jets. The idea raises safety and scheduling concerns, but aircraft flying in such formations may appear in the future.

Speaking of safety and security concerns, the private aviation sector is currently experiencing growth due to increased security and passenger discomfort (delays, long lines) in the commercial aviation industry following the attempt to bomb a Detroit-bound flight on December 25th.

The fact that the US in the year 2009 saw 8 business jet accidents and 36 turboprop accidents compared to 23 and 41 respectively in 2008 also didn't hurt. Gold & Mae Productions, a luxury marketing firm, sees growth opportunities ahead.

Cancellations and the Future of NetJets
